What Does a VicRoads Roadworthy Inspection Cover?

A VicRoads Roadworthy Certificate inspection focuses purely on safety-related components—not the overall mechanical condition or long-term reliability of the vehicle.

The inspection includes the following key items:

Wheels and Tyres

  • Checked for cracks, bulges, visible damage, and secure fitment

  • Must meet the minimum 1.5 mm tread depth requirement

Steering and Suspension

  • Components must be securely mounted

  • No excessive wear, leaks, or damage

  • The vehicle must steer and track correctly

Braking System

  • Brake pads, discs, drums, hoses, lines, and fluid levels are checked

  • The parking brake must operate effectively

  • All components must be mounted correctly with no visible defects

Seats and Seatbelts

  • Seats must be structurally sound and securely fitted

  • Seatbelts must not be frayed, cut, damaged, or incorrectly operating

  • Retractors and buckles must function properly
